For many visitors the Hotel Arts Barcelona is one of the most popular five Star Luxury Hotels in the city. Owned by the Ritz Carlton group (not to be confused with the Ritz hotel which is in another part of town) it offers modern and high quality accommodation in Barcelona.

You will have one of three possible views from the hotel depending on which side of the hotel your room is situated.
The first is of Barceloneta beach if you are at the front or the left side of the hotel as you look at the hotel from the picture at the top of this page (Hotel Arts is the building on the left side in the picture above)

Hotel Arts Barcelona Location

Situated in the marina area of Port Olimpico the Hotel Arts is only a few minutes walk from the beach.
The hotel location, although in the city centre, is not in the very heart of the city centre. For many this is not a problem as the metro is only 5 mins walk away and you are only 4 stops (10 mins journey by metro) to Passeig de Gracia and the very centre of Barcelona. If you want to walk along the beach to the city centre you have about a 30 mins walk, or a 10 minute journey by taxi (Approximately 5 Euros)
Some people prefer their hotel to be situated only minutes walk away from where all the action is. If that is what you want you may need to consider another hotel closer to the Ramblas or Placa de Catalunya instead.
There are advantages to Hotel Arts Barcelona location apart from the beach and marina being close by. You will have a quiet room which means a peaceful night's sleep. Before I moved to Barcelona I came here on holiday at least once per year for the past 10 years ( I usually have 2 holidays per year so I always went somewhere else for the second break). As a result of those visits I stayed in hotels in many locations in Barcelona city centre. I can tell you that the very heart of the city centre is noisy - especially at night when the city comes alive. If you want to be guaranteed of a quiet night's sleep without noise from the street it's recommended you stay in a hotel outside of the very centre or at least away from busy roads. In which case the Arts hotel Barcelona is in a perfect location.
Many internet hotel reservation sites claim that city centre hotels are soundproofed however from my experience this is not always the case and you will have to take what they say with a pinch of salt. By choosing a hotel away from all the hustle and bustle you can be sure of a quiet night's sleep.

What Does Hotel Arts Barcelona Offer You?

If you are looking for style, beach location, and a guaranteed peaceful nights sleep Hotel Arts Barcelona is an excellent choice especially if you can afford the room rates! You will benefit from a modern hotel with rooms of a high standard. You can also be rest assured that the Barcelona Arts Hotel is worthy of its 5 star Luxury hotel rating - something that cannot be said about some other 5 star hotels in Barcelona.

Where is The Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel Barcelona?



The Grand marina hotel Barcelona is about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the Southern most end of the Ramblas, near Monument a Colum - the memorial to the great explorer Christopher Columbus. As the name suggests, The Gran Marina hotel is in the marina area of Barcelona, near to where the cruise ships dock. From the hotel you will have great views of the Marina and Port Vell which is adjacent to the tribute to Christopher Columbus - Colum
The Grand Marina hotel Barcelona is only 10 minutes walk to the Southern most end of the Ramblas and its quite safe to walk to and from the hotel during the daylight hours.
However after dark it would be safer to catch a taxi from outside the hotel to take you to where you want to go. A 10 minute cab journey will only cost you about 5 Euros (use our currency converter to see how much it would be in your currency) and you can go practically anywhere in the heart of the city center with a 10 minute ride from the Grand Marina hotel. Although the hotel is close to the Ramblas to get there you would have to walk down a quiet and isolated road. This would not be recommended especially as at night as the Southern most end of the Ramblas can be rather seedy.
One advantage to staying at the Grand Marina Hotel is you have ready access to the heart of the city center without all the associated noise that you would get if you were staying right in the heart of the city center. Staying at the Eurostars Gran Marina would mean a good nights sleep which you will appreciate if you have a busy day site seeing ahead of you.
There are no restaurants, bars or clubs immediately around the Grand Marina Hotel Barcelona but the hotel is only 5 min cab journey to the foot of the Ramblas and 10 mins to other areas where there are plenty of restaurants and Bars. This means you get all the advantages of a hotel in a quiet location but with ready access to the city centre.
The photo to the right shows the area directly outside the hotel (The Grand Marina hotel is directly behind us in this photo). This area is tastefully ornamented with palm trees and metal sculptures. At the end of this quad you would turn right and have a 10 minute walk to the Southern most end of the Ramblas.

Where is the Le Meridien Hotel?

Le Meridien hotel Barcelona is on the Famous Ramblas in the very heart of Barcelona city centre. The big advantage of staying at Le Meridien hotel is its location. As soon as you walk out of the hotel door you are right in the middle of where all the action is. You have Placa de Catalunya only a few minutes walk away with some fabulous shopping all around that area. Placa de Catalunya has the best transport links in Barcelona. It's served by both the Red and Green metro lines, RENFE trains (for the Airport and for trips outside Barcelona) the Aerobus (the express airport bus service).

Surrounding Area around Le Meridien Hotel Barcelona

You will have 3 different types of view depending on which street your room overlooks. The first is of the Ramblas. The rooms overlooking the Ramblas will be subject to some noise as this is the busiest pedestrianized walkway in Barcelona. One advantage of the Ramblas though is it does not have a lot of traffic whizzing up and down as the roads on either side of the Ramblas are very small. Le Meridien is fitted with double glazed windows to help reduce noise from the street.
 This side of the Meridien hotel Barcelona is the quietest as it's away from the Ramblas. But as you can see from this photo there's not a lot to see on this street and your room will have less natural light than on the other two sides of the building. It depends whether you want a quieter room or a better view. If you don't mind a little street noise then a room overlooking the Ramblas may be more suitable for you.

The Palace Hotel Barcelona is a 5 Star Luxury Hotel on the Gran Via Corts de Catalanes ( a large tree-line road with boulevard) only 10 mins walk from Placa Catalunya and the Ramblas.
Where is the Palace hotel? The hotel is in very heart of the city centre and you are ideally placed to explore the rest of the city either by foot or via the metro which is only 10 mins walk away (Stops Urquinaona or Catalunya)
How much are the rooms? You will have to be prepared to pay some of the highest room rates for any hotel in Barcelona to stay at the Palace. What is the area like? The hotel is in the Eixample area of Barcelona which is the
modern part of town. You have plenty of cafe's, bars and shops in this area but at the same time you are only 15 mins walk away from Barri Gotic and the old Town of Barcelona.
The hotel is on the Gran Via de Corts Catalanes which is one of the busiest roads in Barcelona. The photo above shows the Gran Via. Rooms overlooking the Gran Via will be subject to some traffic noise although the windows in the Palace are double glazed.
There's also many interesting and historical buildings close to the Palace hotel including Gaudi's works La Pedrera and Casa Batllo . With Passeig de Gracia just around the corner you are also not far from the heart of the city's best shopping area.

Where is Hotel Melia Barcelona?

The Hotel Melia Barcelona is in the north western most section of Eixample near Les Corts. Although this hotel is in Barcelona city centre it is approximately 40 minutes walk from Placa de Catalunya (Catalunya is in the very heart of the city center) The hotel is therefore not as conveniently situated for sight seeing as the other 5 star hotels we have reviewed.
The hotel Melia is however only 10 minutes walk away from Hospital Clinic Metro underground stop on the Blue Line, L5. (Click here to see our Barcelona metro map) The metro will take you to practically all the important sights in Barcelona.

Sights of interest near the Hotel Melia Barcelona

The main sight of interest near the Hotel Melia is FC Barcelona which is only 10 minutes walk away.
The other main sight of interest is Palau Reial de Pedralbes which houses the Museu de Ceramica and a collection of famous ceramics, tiles and porcelains including works by Picasso and Miró.
Apart from these two sights you have a good 20 minute walk to any other sights of interest. Alternatively you can use the metro to visit other parts of Barcelona.
The Melia hotel is close to Diagonal (only 10 mins walk) which is on the 5 KM shopping line. Diagonal is home to some of the best shops in Barcelona (along with Passeig de Gracia)

It's important therefore to ask specific questions about your apartment before you book it. Make sure you ask whether your apartment is accessible by lift or not if mobility is an important issue for you.
Other factors include the type of cooking facilities the kitchen is equipped with. Some apartments have a full kitchen and others just the basics like a microwave and sink.

simple telephone call and speaking to someone about your
apartment choice.
d) Can they provide you with testimonials with other satisfied customers? Have a look around their web site or ask them to send you some testimonial of satisfied customers via e-mail. Most reputable company should be able to provide you with testimonials.
5. Does the apartment rental company offer payment by credit card?
Most reputable apartment rental companies offer payment by credit card as an option. They will also have a trading credit with the credit card organization so it is likely that they are a reputable firm.
6.Does the apartment rental agency have an office actually based in Barcelona centre?
Apartment rental agencies which have an office based in the centre offer you an advantage in that if anything should go wrong then you can always go round to their office to speak to someone. Sometimes agencies don't have an office and you will therefore be speaking and dealing only with the owner once you have rented. There is nothing wrong with this, and many rental agencies do this, however it is also good to have an office base in the centre should the owner not be available. Look for landline telephone numbers. These will begin with the prefix "93" if based in Barcelona. Some firms however buy special numbers that offer discount rates etc when calling so this is not a hard and fast rule.

7.Look for an apartment rental agency that is a registered business
Look for an apartment rental agency that is a limited company - they have strict tax and booking keeping to maintain for the Spanish authorities and will have an accountant that oversees their books. You can check this by looking for the letters S.L.or S.A. after their business name. Sometimes the company also publishes their business registration number after this. Note that some companies do not put this information on their websites so it is not a hard and fast rule - simply another factor to look for.

The Gothic Quarter is mainly pedestrianized and any roads are very small and do not have a lot of traffic. However because this area is very popular it will have a lot of tourists passing through it. Choosing your holiday flat in Barcelona in this area will mean you will be in the centre of all the activity and will be in a very atmospheric neighbourhood.

A holiday apartment in Eixample?

Eixample is a large neighbourhood just slightly north of the Ramblas. This area is characterized by trendy shops and restaurants and big busy roads. If you choose to stay in the Eixample be prepared for a little noise.
Try to choose your holiday apartment in Barcelona that is not on a major road.

The main major roads that are very busy and therefore noisy are:

Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes - (one of the busiest roads in Barcelona)
Passeig de Gracia
Calle Aragó
Calle Aribau
Calle Mallorca, Provincia, Rosello and Valencia
Avinguda Paral.lel
Avinguda Diagonal
The above list is not exclusive but only provides a rough guide. If you are going to be staying on one of the above roads try to choose an apartment that is as high above ground level as possible and is fitted with double glazing. Remember that many buildings in Barcelona do not have lifts and you may have to go up several flights of steps to reach your apartment.
As a general rule of thumb, if you are particularly bothered by street noise, try to avoid staying in the Eixample area which has many large and busy roads (all of the above roads are in Eixample). Instead choose your apartment in the old town Barri Gotic area (Gothic Quarter) where there are smaller streets and significantly less traffic.
